Hey, how did you change that banner?
Well, I downloaded it and edited in GIMP.
It tried that. I mean I know web design, but I couldn’t find it.
You know web design?
Well, I know HTML and CSS. I’ve built some stuff.
Oh, that should do then. So, I just fire up Chrome to inspect element…
I don’t have Chrome.
Oh, Firefox or Opera, should have it. Even some versions of Intern…
I use Safari.
Oh, I’m a Windows guy. I really don’t know Macs well, but you can always just read the HTML, I guess.
I can do that. Usually, I just usually click the image an download it.
Yeah, that’s not going to work. This is a background image defined in CSS for this div. The thing I’m doing is technically a hack. I really don’t understand how Magento works. This is the only one I’ve ever seen. So then I fire up Filezilla.
I don’t have Filezilla.
Well, whatever FTP program you have.
I use Dreamweaver.
Yeah, that’s a WYSIWYG, but you’ve got to have a way to get it onto the server.
Dreamweaver does it.
Okay, I guess you can download the whole website with Dreamweaver, but it won’t function without the database. It’s made to be administered from the back end.
Yeah, the back end is a whole lot of crazy. I mean where is that header image stored?
I have no idea. That’s why I do this. See I rename the old one and upload the new one in case I have to go back. See, here’s bg_header_old1.png.
You save them on the server?
Yeah, I wasn’t sure where to put them. Seemed like a good idea. Here’s the other three where I’ve changed it.
I just keep them on my drive.
Yeah, but I’m not going to be here forever. Or what if my computer crashes? It’ll be lost forever. This way XXXX gets to keep it.
Okay, can you edit this text where the address is?
Yeah, I think it’s right here. Wait. I’ll find it. I hacked one of the modules to do it. Let’s see. It’s got to be in the “Secured by SSL” module. Yup, there it is at the end.
Can you move it higher on the page?
Ye-e-ess… I guess I can. I’m a little nervous about it. It’s schema. (Squints at HTML)
Do you need the name there?
Yes. That’s important. It’s part of the Schema.
But you can move it up?
Like up there. Above the product list.
No, I don’t know where that is. I’m pretty sure that would require a theme hack which I don’t know how to do.
No, this Magento is a bit confusing.
Yeah, I couldn’t figure it out.
Well, it’s a CMS, a content management system. So I kinda get how it’s supposed to work, but the documentation is a bit slim. It’s not as nice as WordPress.
Oh yeah! WordPress is awesome. Lots of documentation. I’d love it if this were WordPress, but it isn’t. I just poke around until I get things to work.
Can you put it there?
Ye-e-es. I think so. (Copies original schema. Pastes schema. Checks for new schema. Sees it. Deletes old schema.)
Can you add an image of the hours?
Why not just add text of the hours?
Can you do that?
Like right there?
So, go ahead.
Look, this is schema. It takes a while.
I can see it. You can just type it in.
No. I can’t. It’ll break the HTML.
That doesn’t make sense.
Can you leave?
Can you just leave?
Look, if you aren’t leaving I am.
Please stop telling people you are a web designer.
